The shishi-odoshi or deer chaser or scarer was originally developed by Japanese farmers to scare off deer and boar. It was later used in gardens as their movement provided an element of change. As the water flows from the bamboo spout, the knocking portion fills and spills the water creating a rhythmic knocking sound as it hits a rock. Placed at the edge of a pond, water garden, carved granite basin or set up "dry style", our deer chaser will create an eye catching fountain and provide a serene rhythmic sound. Our deer chasers are finely hand crafted of natural 1 1/2" - 2" diameter bamboo. The 35 1/2" tall spout has a traditional 3" diameter bamboo crossbar for an authentic traditional Japanese appeal. Includes high quality non-kinking tubing. Oversized, cannot ship premium air. Variable rate pump recommended. Our large fountain pump works great with our deer chaser.
